It might not have longboats, but the mead hall-style architecture, the Nords, people with names like Ysgramor – all of it is clearly Viking-inspired. Still, we’d get our games media badge taken off us if it didn’t feature here. To be honest, putting it on this list feels pretty redundant as a recommendation because everyone and their grandma has played Skyrim. Not exactly a Viking game but clearly inspired by the Norse, Skyrim is a timeless RPG that people can’t stop playing. The result is a harrowing, mature delve into the depths of the human psyche through the lens of a Viking video game.

Ubisoft’s online combat game pits warriors from across history against each other – imagine the early days of MMA where people were looking for the dominant styles, but with swords, maces and other deadly melee weapons.
